Reflections - Grime in the Mirror

By Angie Bray-Widner – 5/31/15

We each have our own path to walk in life but the journey is not complete without reflections of ourselves mirrored in other people.  With their reactions to your inputs and their wanted or unwanted input to your actions, we grow and learn about our inner self in a dance of reflections. The input (sought or thrust upon us) that others give us about our life choices is part of the mirror of our inner self to be reflected upon.  Sometimes the reflection is very distorted and the imagery’s intent and meaning is lost for the moment.  Sometimes our eyes are not ready to see the details, nuances or even beauty of the reflection.  We have to clear away the grime filtering our view so that we can see the full spectral beauty and message reflected by the other.  We have to be willing to gaze into the mirror at our own reflection to notice our own grime and deeper self-truths.

Sometimes the input comes from someone with their own distorted set of images and filters and therefore their desire to convey helpful input elicits a consciously unintended image and message.  With their own grime cleaned, a receiver of distorted imagery has a chance of seeing the underlying good intent and receiving the gift of a new perspective.   Otherwise, the dance of reflections gets terribly out of sync.

The questions remains, in the dance of reflections between souls:  can I look into the mirror at my own reflection to see the grime of my own filters and past them to see beauty?  What can I do to clear away the grime?  How can I best receive a distorted reflection to see its underlying truth and beauty?

Utah Trip Sampler

 - From May 14 - 19, 2015, Greg and Angie drove over 1000 miles through the remote deserts and sacred lands of southern Utah and parts of Northern Arizona. With two of their  dogs, they camped and navigated close to 500 of those miles on dirt roads. The goal was to connect with ancient lands, do some ceremonial blessings and offerings in many of these places and enjoy the journey as it unfolded. Living in Flagstaff, Arizona, they feel much of this countryside they traveled through on this trip is their "backyard" that calls to them to do much more exploring.
